The national park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft"

Discover the unique crown jewel of the European natural heritage. You can experience the national park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" on foot, by boat or bike.

The national park - maternity room of the Baltic Sea, manners for fishes, filling station for the bird life, evolution life raft and unique natural setting.

The national park is with its 805 square kilometres the largest of the newly-formed German states. It compasses vast natural coast areas of the peninsulas Darß and Zingst, wide inner bay areas, parts of western Rugia and the island Hiddensee. With 687 square kilometres the biggest part of the national park consists of water expanses.

Nowhere at the Baltic Sea coast the erosion and formation of land is that dynamic, shortly and on such narrow scope like in the national park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft". Nowhere else bluff and beach, headland and beach loughs, the inner bay, dunes, woods, marsh land, salt meadows and reed zones lie that close by.

In a national park the nature of largest parts of the acreage can develop according to their own ordinance and rules. "Let nature be nature" is the motto of this sanctury. Here natural dynamic is the engine of changes.

A national park imparts fascinating insights into the ingenious repair shop of the nature, into the persistent circular flow of becoming and passing by. We will become witnesses of a natural development, letting evolve numerous small and large habitats - prerequisite for biodiversity.

The national park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" is part of a global habitat and consequently stepping stone for vagrant species like hundreds and thousands of migratory birds visiting the region every year. Each year in autumn parts of the national park convert into the biggest crane rest area in Europe.
